Which one are you referring to? Are they going to release all of the Buddy Rich memorial concerts? I would love to have the one with Colaiuta, Weckl and Gadd on DVD (I have it on VHS and it's slowly wearing itself out).

i've been in contact with Ray Brych from Warner Bros Percussion for what must be over a year now, always getting the latest feedback on the procedings of moving this title onto dvd. I have never seen this whole concert before as i have been waiting for the dvd's to come out, but it turns out in about february i found out that warner percussion had been sold to another company and production was put on hold,
But i just got this email from Ray:
Hi Daniel,
Actually it's being sent to the production house next week. We just acquired some bonus footage of Buddy believe it or not, and will be adding 4 new clips to the 2 DVDs. Figure 4-6 weeks from here with no problems along the way.

Yeah is Alfred Publications that bought Warner Bros Percussion
They are releasing the 1989 concert for now (with vinnie, weckl, gadd etc) Tapes 1 and 2 will be on Disc 1 whilst Tapes 3 and 4 will be on Disc 2
I dont have any information on the 1991 concert with marvin smitty smith etc although Ray did say they are keeping both concerts seperate (as in not in the same dvd package)

Weird...I've had a few days off and I popped in the BRII tape. The Buddy clips are AMAZING...I mean the best stuff I have ever seen. The guy was THE MAN. His fluid motion is simply sick. His style and presentation...well you want to grade this guy? Off the scale sick.
This BRII was topic for one of the most heated HOD discussions ever a few years ago. Vinnie basically won the Vinnie vs Dave Vs Gadd rants.
Yet, after seeing it again the other night after a very long hiatus, I must say Steve was the most musical drummer. His pocket was epic and the BR band was lovin' the Steve man.
As it has been said by many, all my non-drumming buds love Steve the best.
Must be said, Vinnie was wicked that night behind the kit. Dave was great. I just think the almost NO video time to the guy who won the drum-off contest was sad. He walks up, picks up trophy and splits.

Weckl was pretty musical on there too. ;c)
As we all know, Vinnie's kinetic assault ability in the final trades that night was untouchable - absolutely ferocious; up there as some of the sickest, over the top, bombastic, jaw-dropping, eye-bugging, most unbelievable spontaneous drumming ever documented, before or since. EVAR. [This is pre-Virg mass-exposure, remember - but in its own way it hangs with that too ;cP]

It would be great if there was some extra footage from the show, or some rehearsal footage maybe? I remember there was a compilation tape of BRMSC I and II that had some photos on the back of Dave and Vinnie in casual clothes in what looked like rehearsal setting? Or maybe there was pics of Vinnie in a tux? Something that was different from the video itself that lead me to believe there was something MORE.
That video changed my life. I bought it to see Dave, but discovered Vinnie. Ended up obsessing on his left hand <strike>until recently</strike> for months.
Although Dave's open solo at the start of his second tune is classic Dave stuff. Very musical as always, tons of finness, and lots of the doubles on the ride, xhat, and hi-hat. I alwaus dug that stuff.

Man, too true, I bought the video for Weckl and found Vinnie and Gadd. I'll always remember getting that home and watching it all the way through about three times in a row. My my, how the tears fell... [img]tongue.gif[/img] [img]wink.gif[/img]
